Silentnight Beds are the largest manufacturer of branded beds in the UK and make over 1500 beds every day. Located in Barnoldswick in Lancashire, Silentnight have been making beds for over 60 years.

The well recognised and much loved symbol of the Hippo and the Duck was first introduced in the mid 1980s to demonstrate silentnights unique no roll-together mattress but these characters have remained as the
company's emblems ever since.
The company started in the 1940s in Skipton under the name Clarkes
. The business developed quickly and demand increased to the point where the company had to relocate to larger premises in Barnoldswick.
In 1951, Clarkes mattresses were turning out over 4000 divans per month and took the step to rename and relaunch themselves as Silentnight Limited.
The company was quickly establishing itself as a brand leader and in 1961, with demand continuing to increase, the company relocated again to its current manufacturing site.
It was the 1980s however that really saw Silentnight take centre stage and dominate the market. Always staying one step ahead of their competitors and constantly striving to remain unique and innovative, Silentnight launched the ultimate spring system and Hippo and Duck were born. This was the first such innovation in 30 years and firmly placed the company as the leading brand and best loved bed manufacturer in the UK.
The spring system was improved again the 1990s and relaunched under the name Miracoil.
Silentnight have also brought their expertise to ensuring that babies and children get the best nights sleep possible. Their Silentnight My First Bed has won many awards, including one from Practical Parenting.
Silentnight have recently announced that they are now part of the Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP), demonstrating their commitment to minimise the impact of their manufacturing process on the environment. They have shown a commitment to protect the environment in which they operate as well as procuring materials from sustainable sources proving that they are not just a company with a great history but one with a good future ahead of them also.
