Some Expensive Beds
When it comes to sleeping in the ultimate style and
comfort some people perhaps may have more money than taste. Over the years,
designers, architects, jewellers and artists have all played their part in
creating some of the world's most expensive beds. Most of these creations cost
more than the average family home but then, most of the world's family homes
are not adorned with crystals, 24 carat gold or super magnetic support systems.
If you fancy enjoying the Midas lifestyle then a gold bed
is definitely the way to go. The Gold Bed designed by Jado Steel is a waterbed
that has a coating of 24 carat gold with inset Swarovski crystals. If pure
decadence is not enough, then perhaps the integrated DVD player, Bose music
system, games console and plasma TV will convince you. The price tag of
around 420K might just put the kybosh on
your luxury bed whim though unless you happen to be a millionaire.
If gold is a little bit overrated as far as you're
concerned then you may be interested to hear about the incredible magnetic
floating bed created by Dutch architect, Janjaap Ruijssenaars, in 2006. It
might have taken six years to create this
1million bed but boy was it worth it. Industrial strength magnets ensure
that this bed floats over a foot off the floor. It is a feat of design magic
and was unveiled at the Millionaire Fair in Kortrijk. At a show like that, the
price certainly wasn't out of place!
When you're looking for something a little less modern
and a little more opulent, the swags and splendour of the Baldacchino Supreme
bed could be your thing. Though it sounds more like a frothy milk drink than a
luxury bed worth an estimated 4million,
this bed is nothing short of a masterpiece. Designed by Stuart Hughes, a
British expert in creating for the world's millionaires, in collaboration with
an Italian design company, the bed was hand carved in chestnut and ash and then
decorated with in excess of 100 kilos of 24 carat gold. Bedecked in fine
Italian silk and cotton this bed is fit for any king. Only two of these beds
were made and the first was sold to an extremely wealthy Italian buyer.
If you're a millionaire who is keen on tightening the
purse strings at the moment, perhaps just splash out on one of the world's most
expensive mattresses instead. Vi-Spring's The Majesty mattress features over
six thousand hand set springs in hand sewn pockets and topped off with layers
of fine silk, cashmere and lambs wool. Priced at around 50K if you don't get a good night's sleep on
this mattress, you might want to ask for your money back!
